Wagar Adult Education Centre Hosts Financial Literacy Event for Newcomers to Canada

By Nur Erdem The Wagar Adult Education Centre in Côte Saint-Luc successfully organized a Financial Literacy event on May 22. This program was  specifically designed for the students, many of whom are newcomers to Canada from diverse international backgrounds. The event aimed to equip these new Canadians with essential financial knowledge and skills to help them navigate their new lives more effectively. On hand was a team from the two   RBC (Royal Bank of Canada)  Côte Saint-Luc branches. They provided invaluable financial information and advice. Recognizing the diverse linguistic needs of the attendees, RBC included native Ukrainian-speaking financial advisors and a Persian-speaking advisor. These individuals formed groups based on language preference, offering personalized financial advice in Ukrainian and Persian, in addition to the sessions conducted in English and French. Laurier Macdonald Career Centre prepares for May 22 Open House

Certainly on both campuses of the Laurier Macdonald Career Centre, where some 800 students–ranging in age from 16 to beyond show up on school days for some good old-fashioned hands-on learning. That’s 3-D learning…not squinting into some hand-held device and working your thumb muscles. Real hands-on…for the students. Real hands-on…for staff and teachers. And guess what? It really works. Stats show that upon graduation, many students are in demand and get jobs they really want and like. So yes, the Laurier Macdonald Career Centre is a happening place–day and evening–a hive of activity. People working on electric vehicles at a ground-floor garage as a flood of future hairdressers and aestheticians showcase their learning on clients as they get ready for the industry.
